Welcome to Wallflower Wedding Photography! I'm Shellene, also known as "Shel" and I've been a professional wedding photographer for several years now. I am a fully licensed member of the Wedding & Portrait Photographers Association.
As you can see by my photographs, I like to view myself as a ‘Wallflower’, taking in your big day and immortalizing it in photographs. Most brides are so caught up in the excitement, hustle and bustle that’s their wedding day, it flashes before their eyes and becomes a blur.
I help take you back through your momentous occasion detail by detail, allowing you to relive what is one of the most important days of your life. I’m very easy-going and calm, even in crazy situations! I love trying new ideas and listen to each couple carefully, so they walk away with a collection of photographs they love. Everyone is unique and their photographs should be too! I love weddings and I love creating artistic, beautiful photographs (ok, and the taste of wedding cake!).
If I had to define what makes me different then other wedding photographers, I would say it is my personality. I'm far from stiff, have a great sense of humor and am very easy-going.I consider it an honor to be trusted with the responsibility of capturing your most special day and will have a blast sharing it with you!
I understand, after photographing many weddings, that on your wedding day the one person who will be with you from the beginning to the end of your day is your photographer and I try my hardest to ensure my brides are comfortable with me and know that I will do whatever I can to make sure their wedding day is the best it can be. Well it's getting you some water or helping to calm you down, I'm there for you!
I also firmly believe that wedding photography should not be a mystery. You shouldn't have to pay top dollar for a wedding photographer and then have to worry about paying even more for the pictures. My fee ALWAYS includes digital images that you are given the rights too. You're friends and family will also be able to download and print out these images, so everyone there doesn't have to lug their own cameras around, they can simply attend and enjoy, leaving the photos to me :)
As far as my background, I've been a student of photography ever since my dad brought home a Minolta 35mm camera. I was only 12 but was fascinated by this camera that could get such close-up pictures even when I was far away and would capture magnificent sunsets with such vivid colors. Well, cameras have come a long way since then and so have I.
When a friend of mine got into wedding photography, I assisted him as his second shooter. After three years as a second shooter I started shooting as the lead photographer. Since then I have shot numerous weddings and find myself continuing to fall in love with capturing those magical moments and glamorous dazzle that make up an amazing wedding.
Like most creative types, my interests have a vast range. I went to Kent State University to study French and theatre. I absolutely love to act & sing and have been in numerous productions throughout the United States, including local plays here in Tullahoma. My love of travel has taken me to Europe, where I was a foreign exchange student in Denmark and have even hosted foreign exchange students in my home. I also went to Europe for additional training,as well as some amazing photos from Paris and Budapest! I’m a dog lover, owning five very spoiled dogs, a boxer named Gunnar, a German Shepard (Jasper), a mini-husky (Athena) and two black labs, Sammy and Casey. I also volunteer with the Humane Society when I can, including fostering dogs until they find forever homes. I like writing, reading and even drawing!
In August of 2010 I met my true soul mate and best friend, Bill, who’s now my business partner in charge of our book keeping. He retired from the US Army as a Sergeant Major after serving 20 years and then 20 more years as a civilian contractor at Ft. Campbell.
Together, we have 2 children, Zachary & Katie. My son Zachary also works as one of our photographers when he has the chance. We are avid board game players so on weekends when I’m not shooting weddings, we spend it playing strategic board games, such as Settlers of Catan, Lords of Waterdeep & Stone Age. We currently reside in Tullahoma, TN but travel as often as we can.
